Kestral
Desalination Plant - Kestral Freight & Customs
In late 2008, IML was awarded a project logistics contract to provide project management and associated logistical support to Kestral's mining and construction customer located in the Pilbara region. In conjunction with their mining engineering customer, Kestral approached IML seeking an end-to-end solution from ship's hook to Pilbara construction site.
The project required the building of a desalination plant at Cape Preston in WA's Northwest region. IML commenced inbound operations in early 2009, with the full ramp up of the project anticipated for July 2009.
IML converted part of its dedicated storage area and introduced customised racking in order to maximise cost effectiveness for our customer. Using our WMS Wintegrate system, Kestral had real-time inventory management capacity and freight tracking when orders were picked and despatched.
The IML scope for this massive project included:
-
Wharf transport
-
Container deconsolidation
-
Warehousing and inventory management
-
'Pick to build' requirements
-
Long haul delivery to the Cape Preston site, including management of over-dimensional freight
-
Preventative maintenance to specific equipment at the IML site
-
Project supervision at a tactical management level as well as overall project management at a strategic level.
